2nd XV Vs. Horden III DJL 08-09-07

Winlaton 2nd XV 5pts Horden 3rd XV 39pts

Winlaton borrowed two players to add to their 11 players and make a game of 13 versus 13. It was a hard outing on a warm afternoon but important to get everyone a game. The main difference between the two teams was that Horden had all their players playing in their right positions, especially with a full set of backs. The first half was very competitive but with the Horden backs always looking threatening they had the edge. With no full back any missed tackles were penalised. Horden scored three tries converting one but Winlaton stormed back to score one of their own. It was a good forward effort scored by the latest product of our youth development scheme, Trevor Murdie. He wished me to report that it was run in from 20 metres but as he was ‘closely supported’ by Andy Moore and the words Andy Moore, run and 20 metres, are words never used in the same sentence. I felt I would be accused of stretching the truth.
HT 5 – 17

The second half saw the Horden backs make good use of the open spaces. Winlaton tackled their hearts but were always on the back foot.
Horden ran in a further four tries converting one.
FT 5 – 39 MoM Andy Robinson
